China Records Heaviest Rainfall in 1,000 Years

Officials have stated that Zhengzhou recorded 617.1 mm rainfall from July 17 to July 20. The average annual rainfall in Zhengzhou is around 640.8 mm. The downpour has caused widespread damage and led to 200,000 evacuations. According to state-run media, a total of 1.24 million people were affected by the flooding. According to news reports, the incoming Typhoon In-Fa is responsible for the heavy rainfall. Zhengzhou city has a population of 12 million and sits on the banks of the Yellow River. China’s deadly summer floods have caused $25 billion in damage during last year. Scientists have warned that widespread dam construction has aggravated climate change problems in China's flood zone.
